About

Ten FM, broadcasting on 89.7MHz and 98.7MHz, is a community radio station with possibly one of the largest broadcasting areas in Australia. Ten FM originally started transmitting in 1983 from a caravan on the top of Mount Mackenzie. The community radio station is now located in the town of Tenterfield, just south of the NSW/QLD border with a second studio in Stanthorpe.

The broadcast area is shown on the map below but by streaming through www.tenfm.org.au our community of listeners can be expanded to anywhere in the world. This is important for those using our station to promote their business or organisation because we capture not only the people in our transmission area, but those who travel into the area from other locations or who have an interest in the area.

In addition to streaming through www.tenfm.org.au, you can also stream on mobile devices at Community Radio Plus

Ten FM transmits on FM frequencies of 89.7MHz with a 4kW transmitter located on Mt Mackenzie, 8km south west of Tenterfield NSW and 98.7MHz with a low power transmitter situated on Mt Marlay, which is one kilometre east of the Stanthorpe CBD. This repeater services areas around Stanthorpe to a distance of about 10km.

The Ten FM signal is RDS-compatible. RDS - Radio Data System – is a technique which allows us to send, along with our normal audio stream, digital information like the song title of the current track on air and the name of the current show on Ten FM. Many home entertainment and in-car receivers are now able to decode RDS information to enhance the listening experience.

Ten FM consists of two separately incorporated organisations. Tenterfield & District Community FM Radio Assoc Inc ABN 72 288 279 866 and Stanthorpe & Granite Belt Community Radio Assoc Inc ABN 26 985 287 576.

Community Service

A key part of our community service is providing feedback from individuals and groups in the area regarding issues of local concern or interest. We can conduct interviews either live in the studios or by phone to publicise local events and facilitate input from interested parties.

Access to the building housing our Stanthorpe studio is controlled, so anyone wishing to visit is advised to make prior arrangements to ensure access is arranged.
